Examples of how the photography style and visual attitude can retain the feeling of joy, lightness and color, yet still feel contemporary.
Examples
An example of a micro-campaign promoting, in this case, product under $100. Using simple graphic devices reminiscent of stick-on price labels, we can create a fun and colorful promo using slightly grainier photographer to add some dimension and reduce photographic flatness.
BE CAREFUL THERE, SWEET TOOTH...
Medcouture at its core is such a colorful and light-hearted brand, so there is often a risk with imagery that it comes across as too sugary and overly ‘performative’ if not handled with balance and care.
When approaching and crafting imagery it's easy to veer into "sugary" territory if too much color, joy, and whimsy are packed into a single image; like pouring a honey topping onto cotton candy!
The examples shown below, in the middle and far right, show how we can avoid this by balancing bright tones with neutral or muted elements, and incorporating grain and an almost ‘caught moment’ quality to the photography to add depth and story. . It is easy to imagine how the image on the far left can be translated very easily, showing all of the same product, into the image in the middle.
Slightly more contrasty imagery, with subjects avoiding ‘performing for the camera’ can keep the overall feel vibrant and playful without overwhelming the senses with sweetness. This approach ensures the brand remains lively and engaging without tipping into excess.
